The Camps of Spanky's Village

Spanky's Wine Bar and Joey's Playground

Born from the flotsam and jetsam of many great camps and villages over many years,
(such as Hello Camp, Firefly village, the conGLOMerate village, the Playground, the
PlayaQ and others), Spanky's was the brainchild of Admiral Painjoy.  Conceived as a
camp where-in the daytime is a place where people could hang out in a chill environment
with eclectic music and enjoy conversation, camaraderie, cocktails and play fun bar
games... then at night, the camp members and the customers could cut loose and get their
freak on a bit without fear of judgement.  A safe environment of sexy fun, where people
can explore BDSM and still keep a sense of good humor about it all.

Our "wine bar" takes a lampoon-ish tone by offering "flights" of our phoney/re-labelled
wines presented by bartenders acting like snobbish sommeliers.  We also have fun bar
games, bartop dancing/stripping, contests, and the MPR (morning painjoy radio) show.
The bar area is also home to the Spank-O-Matic machine, bondage wall and
Orgasmatron (all famous Bman staples).  Joey's Playground is the area accross the
Esplanade from the Bar and is home to some other very famous toys (all conceived in the
mind of the infamous Mayor Joey), such as the Chairway to Heaven (our 40' tower ride),
The Teeter Totter of Death, and the Centrifuge.

All-in-all, Spanky's offers more diverse fun than any camp on the playa, hands down!

The Burning Band
Burning Band has been performing yearly at Burning Man since 1996, and is an
offshoot of Los Trancos Woods Community Marching Band in the San Francisco Bay
Area.
http://ltwcmb.com/   Over the years,Burning Band has performed in BRC at a
Circus,  many Art Work Installations, Parties, and Parades,in Center Camp, in addition
to MANY impromptu performances....all to the delight of BRC citizens. This year, in
addition to outside performances, Burning Band will be playing for two or three of
Spanky's Village gigs... The Weird Underwear Brigade, The Little Black Dress Parade,
and The_________?  Burning Band is comprised of a combination of excellent
musicians, along with 'not so excellent' musicians..and ALL are welcome!! Our troupe
always includes some tambourine players, Kazoo players (Admiral Painjoy is First
Chair Kazoo...but other categories are still open), Flag wavers, Twirlers, Pom Pom
People, and any other category that creative minds devise!

Our musical style is simple... We are here to have fun!!!!  We play a chorus and then
sing a chorus... tunes such as 'Walk Right In', 'Wait Till The Sunshines Nellie'," The
Washington and Lee March', and many more.. We don't have charts, but all the songs
are very easy to learn as you play... and there is always opportunity for 'jamming' too!
We welcome musicians to camp with us... Burning Banders like to play a lot of music
and having a live-in quorum is delightful!  Burning Band wears uniforms for our
performances... white shirts and yacht caps with Burning Band Logo... and the dress
code for the rest of the 'uniform' is either black underwear or no underwear, or some
other creative combo..

Villains and Virgins

Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future. In each of us there is a relationship
between light and dark, between that which is perceived as good and that which is
perceived as evil.  It is our intention to address the integral balance that exists between
those elements.  Good cannot exist without evil, light is meaningless without dark.
Perhaps instead of viewing this relationship the way most do, as a struggle, we can
accept the reliance of one on the other, and find our own sense of balance between
them.  After all, we are each of us saints and sinners, creators and destroyers, Villains
and Virgins.

The central theme of Villains & Virgins is Balance, and more specifically, the interplay
and interdependence of Sanctity & Sin.  At its core, Villains & Virgins is about the
people that make up its membership.  It is our tribe, our family, our circle of friends.
The group that comprises our camp represents a distillation of a multitude of diverse
networks down to a small, tight group that share many common passions.  One of those
passions is to once a year all get together in the middle of the Black Rock Desert, to
explore who we are and why we are here.

The ladies of the camp are collectively referred to as the Velvet Vixens.  These playa
goddesses are a force unto themselves, worthy of respect and admiration.  The gentlemen
of the camp are collectively referred to as the Virile Vicars.  Men of power and patience,
natives of the playa sands, commissioned to exercise episcopal authority.  Our colors are
black, white and red, our drinks are vodka and champagne, and our music is sexy,
strong, and thumping.

“If your knowledge of fire has been turned to certainty by words alone, then seek to be cooked by the fire
itself.  Don’t abide in borrowed certainty.  There is no real certainty until you burn; if you wish for this, sit
down in the fire.” – Mevlana Rumi

SPORK
We are Southerners Perpetuating Okra and Roux Knowledge. This not-so-secret society
aims to spread the charm and mirth of New Orleans across Black Rock City one hot cup
of gumbo at a time. Did you know that if you run out of bacon grease, okra can be used
as a personal lubricant?

We are a small group of friends from New Orleans that will be serving home-made
gumbo every evening to all that wander by around sunset. On Sunday, there will be a
brunch beginning when we sober up enough to cook, until the cheese grits run out. We
will also provide hella-strong iced coffee to keep things cool and pulsating. Our gumbo
will be served in paper dixie cups for those who don't have their own container, and we
will be giving out keenly decorated bamboo sporks. Laize le bon temps roule.

Camp Mystic

Camp Mystic celebrates the deeper realities of our existence.  We honor the spirit in our
fellow beings and the magical energy within all creation.  For 12 years, the members of
Camp Mystic have brought to Black Rock City our blend of mind, heart  and magic
through performance art, theater, film, workshops, sculpture, art car and a love like no
other ~ we are a collective of truth seekers and explorers who enjoy the magnificence of
the Playa, raising the bar in Life, and honoring our interconnected inspiration to be our
best and live our truth.  And we RAGE TILL DAWN.

For 2009, Camp Mystic is thrilled to be joining up with Spanky's Village.  Mystics will
be creating The Purpose Circus: An Expedited Evolution Emporium, producing a one-
night-only performance of the musical Godspell, co-hosting the Black Rock
Bacchanalian Bachelor/Bachelorette Bash with Villains and Virgins and "Hoop Soup".

Hello Camp
Bored?  Lonely?  Want to meet new and interesting burners?
Want to strip them of their given names and replace them with dirty names?
I know you do.
Hello Camp will be making it's 9th appearance on the playa this year.
There is no set time or day to give out name badges... just find Admiral Painjoy and ask
him for a few sheets of name badges and a quick lesson on how to attack... errr...
approach people, and you're on your way to having some superhappyfuncool times!

Pope DB's Hairwash and Lascivious
Massage Parlor
Strangely discordant, a lone figure emerges from the depths of the playa’s worst dust storm. An
oasis of love and cleanliness awaits.  Located deep in the bowels of Spanky’s Wine Bar Pope
Dirty Bastard offers his 12th year of washing hair and rewarding the beloved citizens of Black
Rock City with a truly caring licentious massage. Many of our beloved citizens come to our city
thirsting to experience all that our community has to offer. This year, as in previous years, the
Pope will be washing and attending the feet for a few lucky souls. Special VIP clients may also
be offered other special cleansing experiences.  The vastness of the desert is balanced only by the
decadence of a clean head, a relaxed moment of bliss and a glass of Spanky’s finest wine.

Camp Chrysalis
Chrysalis is an eccentric salon to discuss and play with the ideas of emerging consciousness, the
planetary crisis, and whatever questions arise on the spectrum of the known and the unknown.
Ideas and perspectives, that's what we want.  Show up and start a discussion and Camp
Chrysalis will take it on.  What is important and has the heft to solve problems will rise to the
top and the ideas that don't work? Well. Muah HA HA. They all fall to the deep chasm of the
Chrysalis, crucified on the crux of humor.

"Humour is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humour.  For a subject which will not bear
raillery is suspicious:  and a jest which will not bear a serious examination is certainly
false wit"   ~Aristotle~

As well as discussions, Chrysalis offers yoga class Mon, Wed, Fri mornings at 10 a.m.
